London

London is one of the most interesting cities in Europe. During holidays many tourists from all over the world come to London, which is situated on the river Thames.

When you visit London, one of the first things you will see is Big Ben. This famous bell was installed in 1859. Big Ben took it’s name from Sir Benjamin Hall who was responsible for its constructing. Big Ben is not only huge (weighs 14 tons!), but also very precise. Twice a day some officials from the Greenwich Observatory make sure that the clock is right.

Other attraction of London is The Buckingham Palace.This famous palace, built in 1703 by the Duke of Buckingham, is in the centre of London. It is two places,not one.It is a family house,where children play and grow up.It is also the place where presidents,kings and politicians to meet the Queen. Buckingham Palace is like a small town,with a police station,two post offices,a hospital,a bar,two sports clubs,a disco,a cinema and a swimming pool.There are 600 rooms and three miles of red carpet.Two men work full-time to look after the 300 clocks. About 700 people work in the Palace.

There is also The Tower Of London, which was built in XI century by William the Conqueror. It was a prison, treasury, zoo and arsenal. It was also the Royal Residence until XVII century. You can also see there Crown Jewels in the Jewels House.

One of the most popular bridges in the world is Tower Bridge, which is situated on river Thames. This bridge was built between 1886-1894 by Sir Horace Jones. At the beginning steam engines were used to raise the bridge so that ships could pass underneath. It has two impressive gothic towers.

There are much more attractions in London: Windsor Castle, Madame Tussaud’s Museum, British Museum, London Eye, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Westminster Abbey.
