Dear Mr Long,

With a reference to your advertisement for a film reviewers I wish to apply for this job. I should be grateful if you would consider my application for this position. I have been working as a film reviewer for more than 2 years.

After leaving school (the University of York) where I gained my Course of Film Knowledge Diploma, I entered a firm Marx & sons for whom I have worked for 2 years. From the copy of the Diploma which I enclose you will see that I have good qualifications and that I obtained this certificate. Throughout my degree course I have learnt to analyze and evaluate information and present reasoned opinions to problems. I have a fair knowledge of cinema. I feel these will be valuable skills for a career in the Patton Publish House.
I enclose copies of three testimonials and hope you will give me the opportunity of an interview. I think, next week, thursday would be the best for me. I trust that you will give my application favourable consideration.
