Famous Australian actor - Russel Crowe deeply impressive creates main hero - Maximus Decimus Meridius, young, famous commander of Marcus Aurelius army.

The film is set in Rome - time of glory and power of Cesar. His best warrior Maximus fights for him and conquers the Europe. Maximus has everything: loving family and fame. After his last fight with Germans he decided to go back to his wife and son, but Marcus Aurelius has another mission for him. He wants Maximus to become a cesar after him, but there is a problem. Commodus - young and ambitious son of Marcus Aurelius wants to be a heir. He finds out about father's will and makes a horrible plan...

In this film movie Ridley Scott perfectly created an atmosphere of intrigues, revenge and violence.
Stars like Russel Crowe, Jaquin Phoenix (as a Commodus) and Richard Harris (Marcus Aurelius) made this film unforgettable and it still attracts a lot of people.
It also got an Oscar for profoundly moving music composed by famous songwriter Hans Zimmer.
Also amazing special effects, costumes and make up made it incredibly real - while watching we can feel atmosphere of battles in Coloseum.

In my opinion this is the best film I have ever seen and everyone who hasn't seen it yet should watch it immediately. I recommend it to people who are intrested in Ancient Times - they won't be disappointed.
