In every city there is always a place that is particularly attractive and unique. In my home city – Łódź, this place is called Manufaktura. Over many years it was a complex owned by a Polish-Jewish industrialist Izrael Poznański. He started creating his textile empire in 1871 by raising first buildings. In 1999 when whole complex was in terrible condition, group of investors decided to build a shopping-service centre. Now, it is extremely unique place which connects a great history with modernity.
Manufaktura is located almost directly in the heart of the town and is surrounded by 4 streets – Zachodnia st, Ogrodowa st, Karskiego st and Drewnowska st. Whole area covers around 27ha. On that big area we can find the biggest Mall in Central Europe. With its over 300 shops makes it a place where you can buy almost everything! Besides this fantastic shopping centre there are also a lot of interesting places such as Multiplex with 14 screens and an enormous 3D screen, bowling center, recreation center with climbing walls and fitness club, skate park and a disco. There are also about 30 restaurants!
Of course investors have not forgotten about history of this place. You can find there the Factory Museum which presents the history of the place, Art Museum which presents a modern art collection and also the Museum of City Łódź located in the nearby Poznański Palace. Everyone will find something interesting to do!
Manufaktura is the biggest renovated site in Europe. It is a combination of modern forms, materials and architecture with the past magnificence, power and monumentalism of the 19th century factories. It is definitely a place worth seeing and if you are in Łódź it would be a sin not going there.
