Dotyczy przymiotników jedno i dwu sylabowych, dodajemy końcówkę "er" w stopniu wyższym oraz "the est" w stopniu najwyższym.
a) dodajemy bez problemów
cheap - czeaper - the cheapest
young - younger - the youngest
old - older - the oldest
b) kiedy przymiotnik kończy się na "e"
wide - wider - the widest
large - larger - the larhest
c) jeżeli przymiotnik kończy się na spółgłoskę "y", wtedy dochodzi do wymiany na "i"
pretty - prettier - the prettiest
happy - happyier - the happiest
d) jeżeli przymiotnik jest jednosylabowy, zawiera jedną samogłoskę w przedostatniej pozycji, dochodzi do podwojenia ostatniej spółgłoski
big - bigger - the biggest
sad - sadder - the saddest
thin - thinner - the thinnest
2. Stopniowanie opisowe
dotyczy przymiotników dwu sylabowych zakończonych na "ed", "ing", "ful", "dome" oraz przymiotników wielosylabowych, dopisujemy cząstki "more" i "the most"
tried - more tired - the most tired
boring - more boring - the most boring
careful - more careful - the most careful
handsome - more handsome - the most handsome
expensive - more expensive - the most expensive

good - better - the best
bad - worse - the worst
