If anyone asked me about the best book I have recently read I would definitely point to The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The readers of the novel can share an anmosphere of Medieval misticism on almost each page of the book as well as they can hear the song of the desert. In the book the author tells a story of a Spanish boy called Santiago who has a dream and enough courage to follow it. The novel, where symbols, dreams and adventures seem to follow the readers like echoes of ancient wise voices, is very optimistic and appears to make people believe that everything is possible if you are persisent enough to follow your derams. Santiago, a young shepard leads a quiet sort of life. One night he has a strange dream about a treasure. He goes to a Gipsy waman who explains him that the treasure is buried near the Egiptian pyramids. Santiago is in doubt but then he meets a scholar who convinces him that it is worthwhile to fulfill your dreams even if it demands a lot of effort. And from now on Santiago starts his journey and on his way he meets a lot of interesting people like kings and alchemists. However, by the end of the journey he discovers that ?the treasure lies where your heart belongs? and that the treasure was the journey itself, the discoveries he made and the wisdom he aquired. All in all, everyone might enjoy reading the book. The core of the novel?s philosophy seems to be the thought that ?when you want something to happen, the whole universe conspires so that your wish comes true?. It appears to be a great metaphor of human life with its pursuit of happiness. It also conveys a simple message that often we cannot notice something precious that may be within our reach searching for it all over the world. I was deeply moved by the book. I believe that each of us can identify with Santiago. All of us have dreams but are we brave enough to follow them?
