Letter

Dear Ann,

Thank you for all that you have done for me lately. You are my best friend. Now you have a problem, and I will try to help you. The news about not passing your exam came as surprise, especially as I knew how hard you had worked at school and revised for it. Bad luck ! That is why I want you to know how very sorry I fell for you.

At your age, however, nasty setbacks like this do happen quite often, but they should not be allowed to make you feel despaired. I agree that you should try it again and I hope that you will pass it next time. Maybe it was not your day that time?
Sometimes, you know, life plays little tricks on us, only to make it all come right in the end. Never mind. More luck next time !
Perhaps waiting another year before you go to University will give you an unexpected boost you might not have even dreamed of.

After all, you are only ninteen, and your whole life is ahead of you ! Look ahead, Ann, to the future, and better luck next time.
