Dear John,

I’m writing to you because your parents asked me to give you some advice about your coming to Poland. I think that your plan is very good and will be helpful, but it can be a little bit difficult to carry out.
First of all the Polish language is completely different from the English one and you won’t make yourself understood unless you take part in a kind of language course. I’m almost sure that in England there aren’t any Polish courses, but fortunately I’ve heard that in my city there’ll be such a course for people just like you. If I were you, I would undoubtedly try it as it lasts only three weeks. Besides, there is nothing to lose but these three weeks.
Apart from this course you ought to listen to and read something in Polish, so I can send you some music CDs and magazines I find easy to catch some Polish words.
What’s more, before you come to Poland you could also watch some Polish films with English subtitles – it’s a great way to start learning a language – believe me!
To end with, I’m glad that your parents trusted me and asked me to support you.

BTW: it’ obvious that I’ll put you up while you are here – don’t even mind looking for a hotel or things like that.
I hope I’ll be of some help, best wishes,
