Since the late 60s the majority of Olsztyn's citizens have come here to pick up all their necessary food delicacies. From the early beginning, farmers had stalls near Żeromskiego street but currently most of them have already moved to the new modern market building which is called 'Zatorzanka'.
Here you can find exotic spices, tasty desserts as well as all kinds of bread. You can also buy wonderful fresh fruits and meats from organic farms situated in the 'Warmia and Mazury' region. What's more, the freshest meats and the best cheeses are for sale with lots of vendors to choose from. Among the usual selections, this well-known street market is surrounded by many illegal stands set up with Russian 'specialities', including, of course, smuggled cigarettes and vodka. It is true that many foreign resellers create some kind of vibrant atmosphere which makes this place more extra-ordinary.
There are also some places to sit and enjoy such us two pizzerias and one cosy cafeteria. For those who are less demanding and looking for cheap entertainment I would truly recommend a great opportunity to socialise with local pensioners in a wide range of small pubs.
The street market is open from 08:00 AM till 04:00 PM every day. However, you should bear it in mind that the most suitable day for doing shopping is 'the market day' – Sunday. If you are in Olsztyn make sure you will visit this place. It's an experience not to be missed.
