Has urban life got anything to offer?

The issues mentioned in the article which include excessive pollution, traffic congestion and rising crime rates, are main factors making life in the cities unbearable.
What a waste of time it is to stand in a traffic jam every morning and every afternoon. This is how most of commuters spend time going to and from work. The situation could be improved if new road systems were build. Some cities are simply wrong designed and very little can be made to improve the situation. Besides, such investments require huge sums of money which hardly any city can not afford.

Pollution is another annoying feature of life in a city. Car fumes are inevitable and although most cars run on unleaded petrol nowadays reducing emission of harmful gases the situation has not improved much. The fact is that cities are much more polluted than forests and farmlands.

Cites are expanding although they are not made of rubber. Sub-urban areas are often seats of misery. The differences between poor and rich are getting bigger. We do not feel secure nowadays. Rising unemployment and lack of perspectives drive people to crime. We can try to prevent it though education, providing good social services and running campaigns. The quality of life depends much on politicians and political systems.

If everyone has an alternative of staying in a city or moving out of it, the latter choice would be prevailing. Still, a romantic vision of life in a country has its disadvantages, too.
Cities offer many opportunities of employment. During the industrialization a lot of young village dwellers moved to urban areas in search of descent work. This is definitely the most important advantage of living in a city. So many people living in an urban area create a big market making most businesses profitable.

A city can offer you a lot of entertainment, cinemas, theatres and education opportunities. Cities are centres of science, technology and political centres providing countless opportunities for clever people. Life in a city is simply much more interesting. In my opinion cities do still have many to offer. Advantages outrun disadvantages.
