1) The person who represented an other generation and who I can describe with pleasure is Karol Wojtyła. He was born on 18 May 1920 in Wadowice. At the age of eight he lost his mother and after a couple of years Karol lost his older brother and father, as well. In 1978 he was elected as the Pope and he took up a new name - John Paul II. This Pope was also given the title of the 'Pilgrim Pope'.
Physically, Karol Wojtyła was on the short side. His round, pale face with short and small nose was always smiled. He had small, bright, blue eyes full of worth and understanding. His head was covered with short grey balding hair. John Paul II used to be as normal as he could. He had never worn expensive smart clothes.
As for his personality, Karol's most striking characteristic is his modesty. He tried to be the same person like he had been before his election. John Paul II visited about 130 countries. But he did not travel there just for sightseeing. He was changing places where he was. Extraordinarist, which he got, showed itself in his tolerant and thruthful lifestyle.
John Paul II is an icon of scancity. He brought changes in the image of the church across the globe. He gave people much ,ore than everyone had ever given. He taught Christians and belevers of other religious understanding and tolerance towards other people. He will be always remembered as a good man.
2) Sometimes I recall holiday memories. They make on important part of my life. One of these places where I was when I was young is Puck.
It is a popular seaside resort in the north of Poland. This town is famous for a number of reasons. One of them is a wonderful, aquatic sports base. There is the third biggest port in our country. The seaside resort aims at tourism, so there is a lot of accommodation for the night. What is more, the heart of the town - market square - contains stylish, unusual restaurants.
I haven't mentioned why Puck is so significant for me. First of all, I used to spend there my holidays. I was keen on water sports. Because Puck is a good place for it, I spent there whole days swimming and sailing. What bore in my mind the most was the beach - clean and full of shiny sand. Next to the coast there was the Captain Morgan's restaurant, where I used to have meals with parents. The buildings was covered with neverending ivy.
I will never forget days, which I spent there. Although I was in Puck so many times, I won't get bored with it. If you haven't planned your holidays yet, do not forget about this town.
3) The film 'Lawa' is directed by Tadeusz Konwicki. This Polish drama is based on the book 'Dziady'. I was watching it during a mother tongue lesson at school and I must say I felt asleep. The movie turned out to be another boring screen version.
The plot concerns the youth who are being kept in a prison in Lithuania. They were arrested for propagating their ideologics by senator Nowosilcow. Another theme describes a love story between one of the young man - Gustaw (Artur Żmijewski) and Maryla (Jolanta Piętek-Górecka). It is necessary to mention the most important scene which is 'Wielka improwizacja' - the longest part of Konrad's acting.
The plot seems to be overcomplicated and too long. The director packed it with too many unlinked episodes. Moreover, there are a lot of innovational ideas which weren't successful. What strack me is showing Guślarz as a woman (Maja Komorowska). Konwicki tried to present as many details as possible but he didn't manage. Unfortunately, acting is appaling and rather wooden as wall. What is more, the film includes too many symbolic meanings. The most visible is the name of the movie - 'Lawa'. It isn't understandable for an ordinary spectator. When it comes to music (created by Zygmunt Konieczny), it is monotonous and too loud that it is impossible to listen to actors' lines. Also lighting is disastrous. There even appear such mistakes as a cameraman's shadow in the frame.
All in all, 'Lawa' is not a movie worth being recommended. It can be only used as an example how not to make a film. Perhaps this is not the director's fault but the basics which is already difficult to understand. I am sure that someone might disagree with me but from my point of view it is a real disaster.
4) The Internet has revolucionised the world. Nowadays, there are millions of people, who can't imagine living without being connected into the network. The Internet has advantages as well as disadvantages.
Firstly, I'd like to present some arguments in favour of using the Internet. Being connected allows you to do almost everything. It not only lets you save a bit of time but it makes people feel needed. For example, disabled people, who can't more from their houses, can work as a normal employee, without living their rooms. What is more, the Internet connects people. There are a lot of social websites where you can look for users who are interested in the same things like you.
However, being connected can be dangerous. You can be easly addicted of it. Fro instance, there are many people, who are addicted to doing shopping through the network. They are becoming to be under control of sellers. Furthermore, the development of the computer network can be dengerous of the crimes commited by hackers. Every single user's account can be hacked in one moment,
On balance, it seems that the Internet has as many pros as cons. What is sure, the network will be still expanding and it won't vanish within the nearest ages.
5) It was in the summer. That cycling journey was thought to be one of the nicest trips, we had ever been on. But everything turned upside down.
We got up early in the morning. It was chilly outside. As we had planned before, after short breakfast we packed our luggage and mounted bikes.
Our journey seemed to be easy but suddenly light breeze turned into gale-force wind. We decided to flock together and continue cycling. Everything want fine till the weather changed and it started pouring. We had to hide somewhere so we found ourselves under the big tree. Ran was so strong that we had to stay there for a night.
In the morning everything was wet. I was dead tired and I couldn't open eyes. Suddenly I smelled something. It ws disgusting. In one moment I recognised the odor. Unfortunately, that was me. Dreaming about a rainy day I urinated into my own bed. What a shame! That is why that was the worst dream I gad ever had.
6) Environment protection is very important. However a lot of people claim that it doesn't make any difference. There are many actions connected with the Earth protection, but does it have any sense?
It appears that large companies are responsible for most of damage in the atmosphere. The ecologists fight with industrial zones to reduce carbon emissions. They bielieve that it would considerably diminish the problem of global warming. I can fully go along with that.
Recently the plastic bags have been replaced with their ecological equivalents. I can see a bit of sense in it, nevertheless I think that it isn't enough. The idea itself is good, although people aren't used to it. They prefer buying plastic bags because of their price.
On the whole, it seems that environment protection has as many pros as cons. I can see a point of idea replacing plastic bags but I am convinced that it would only function if there were a total ban on using plastic ones. The same concerns large companies. There should be environment recovery. I fully share the opinion that environment protection actions have a big influence on the future of our planet.
