The exploration of the universe was started in 1950s. Since then, every year billions of dollars are spent on that kind of projects. Investing such a fortune in space travels, we should forget about universe and spend that money on solving the Earth problems. I believe that would be a better choice.
Firstly, the most serious problem of our humanity is hunger. Although we live in one of the doing-well countries, there is one billion people in Africa and Asia, who suffer from hunger. Every year thirty millions of them are killed by malnutrition. Resigning of exploration of the universe, we could save at least some human beings.
Moreover, there are 40 millions of people suffering from AIDS. Two thirds of them living in Africa, where is a very little knowledge about the ways of injecting with HIV. Countries investing in the exploration of the universe should devote more money on medical care for already infected people and also on educating how to prevent yourself from getting infected. Consequently, the number of people suffering from AIDS will decrease.
Finally, universe-exploration projects are not always effective and could be dangerous. Many spacecrafts and satellites were destroyed in the universe. What is more, more than twenty astronauts have died during space travels.
On the other hand, the exploration of the universe satisfies human curiosity. Such as middle-ages cruises have enabled discovering another continents, space projects enable exploring another planets, developing technology and expand human mind.
To sum up, the exploration of the universe is one of the most spectacular human achievements. Nevertheless, I am convinced that as long as we have such many unsolved problems on our planet, like hunger, AIDS or wars, we should resign of expensive universe travels and spend more money on helping humanity.
